U.S. military says it killed al-Qaida leader in drone strike

The U.S. army stated it killed a senior al-Qaida chief in an airstrike Friday in northwest Syria.

Military Maj. John Rigsbee, a spokesperson for U.S. Central Command, stated in a press release that Abdul Hamid al-Matar was killed by a drone strike.

Rigsbee stated the killing of al-Matar will disrupt al-Qaida’s “skill to additional plot and perform international assaults threatening U.S. residents, our companions, and harmless civilians.” He stated al-Qaida “makes use of Syria as a base for threats reaching into Syria, Iraq and past.”
